Merchant account means the acceptance of bank cards as a means of paying for goods and services. This has recently become the most dynamic aspect of the bank card business in Russia. A large and increasing number of clients prefer to use their cards for payment, by selecting stores, restaurants, salons, tourist agencies, etc., that accept them. Today, the availability of electronic card terminals used for performing operations with cards of international payment systems, such as MasterCard International, Visa International and Union Card, has become just as necessary for sellers of goods and services as the availability of cash registers. The availability of card acquiring at sales outlets attracts more clients to those outlets, giving them a number of advantages:

greater competitiveness and increased sales turnover due to the inflow of more customers who are cardholders;

the duration of a card acquiring operation does not exceed 10 seconds, provided there is a reliable communications channel; this is much faster than a cash operation;

customers enjoy the added convenience and are able to save time, as they do not need to prepare cash; there is also no danger of loss or theft of the money, or of receiving counterfeit banknotes.
